Hunter is the Weekend Daybreak and Breaking News anchor for WREG News Channel 3. He was born in Columbus, Mississippi. He started as a production assistant at a local news station while still a senior in high school. Before getting his degree from college, he began working as an anchor and sports reporter.
After graduating from Mississippi State University, he moved to Memphis to pursue a career as a sportscaster and news reporter. Around the same time, he became passionate about news. He covered major issues in Memphis, including the murder of Lorenzen Wright, the Memphis Tigers' quest for a National Championship, the Grizzlies' trip to the Western Conference Finals, and the Memphis City School Board's decision to renounce its charter.
After eight years in Memphis, Hunter returned to Mississippi to raise his daughter Kayla and welcome his son Marcus Jackson Hunter into the world. Jackson's morning show won several Emmys.
He covered national news, including the fight to change Mississippi's state flag, the state's oral arguments before the US Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade, and the 2021 Jackson water crisis.
