Tom Cruise, whose real name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, is an actor from the United States. He is one of the highest paid performers in the world and has won many honors including an Honorary Palme d'Or, three Golden Globe Awards and four Academy Award nominations. With over $4 billion in North American box office receipts and over $11.5 billion worldwide, his films have made him one of the biggest box office stars of all time.

With the approval of his mother and stepfather, Cruise moved to New York at the age of 18 to pursue an acting career. He moved to Los Angeles to audition for television jobs after working as a busboy in New York. He joined CAA and started acting in films.
